During the later years of his life, his eyesight began to fail and he had become weaker which had been attributed to old age. He died at the age of 83 years, 2 months and 17 days. He was born January 14, 1822 in Hanover, the son of a shepard and came to America in 1845 with his parents, 1 brother and 2 sisters.
Under the administration of the Adlesverein they came from Galveston to New Braunfels in 1845. In the middle of 1846, they came with the colonists to Fredericksburg. Here Heinrich Herbort helped with the building of the streets and is literally a pioneer of civilization in the new land of his choice.
Later he settled on a farm at Meusebach Creek which would become the home place of the family. On September 20, 1851, he married Katherine Bonn who survives him. He is also survived by seven children, all who live in Gillespie County. They are Peter, August, Marie Feller, Louise, Ernst, Emma Kusenberger and Herman Herbort. 48 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren also survive. His parents and brother and sisters proceeded him in death.
The relatives and friends rejoiced over his honesty and character acknowledged by all who knew him. He was buried on Sunday in the Meusebach Creek Cemetery with the Pastor Schoch officiating. The Columbia Men's Choir sang at the grave of the deceased.
