Martin Decker, son of Minrod and Rose Decker was born at Alsace Lorraine, France on the Rhine on November 19, 1851, where he lived with his parents until October, 1872, when he came to the United States, settling in Shelby County, Indiana.

He was married to Barbara C. S. Wise in Decatur County, Indiana, October 30, 1876, and came to Coffey County, Kansas in October, 1885 with his family and settled on a farm he purchased near Hartford in the Indian Hill neighborhood. He moved in the spring of 1902 to the farm near LeRoy in the Valley neighborhood, leaving there to retire from farming in November, 1912 to his present home on East Kennebec St. He was ill for 18 months before his death and during this time Miss Josie Decker and Thomas Decker of the home and all of the other children were with him and gave him constant and loving care. He was 90 years, four months and 18 days old.

He leaves to mourn his loss his eleven children, all of whom but three reside here: Joseph Decker, Mary Agnes Shull, Josephine Gertrude Decker, Emma Anna Gorman, of Lamar, Colo., Frank Minrod Decker, Albert Edward Decker, Charles Martin Decker, Susan Mary Kruger, Jacob Adolf Decker of Anderson, Mo., Flora Elizabeth Riebel of Welda, Thomas Decker and two deceased, Katie, second oldest child died at the age of two years and a boy, stillborn, May 6, 1902 and 51 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and many other relatives and a host of friends, who will greatly miss his going.
