New Berlin, July 25 - The many friends of John F. Elliott, Sr., will be pained to learn of his death, which occurred about 7 a.m. on Friday morning, July 25, in his 68th year. Deceased has been failing for a year past but was confined to the house but some three weeks by his last illness. Although the attending physician pronounced his trouble heart disease, and informed the family that death might be expected at any time, the family were wholly unprepared for so sudden a summons from the death messenger. Only the day previous to his death he rode out with his son Henry intending to go to Berlin, but owing to the coolness of the air, returned home.

Deceased leaves a family consisting of his wife, one daughter and three sons, two of the latter being married, all being residents of this vicinity, also a brother and a sister, residents of Lincoln, Neb., and a sister who resides in Cincinnati, as well as a large circle of old friends and acquaintances. Mr. Elliott was a citizen who will be sadly missed in his neighborhood, having held positions of trust and responsibility back to the years of the early settlement of this section. His death has spread a feeling of sadness over the entire community, who deeply sympathize with the bereaved ones in their great sorrow. The funeral services will be held on Sunday morning. - IL State Journal, Springfield, IL, 7-26-1890
