Mrs. Mary Harlan, who was 100 years old the 20th of last March, died at the home
of her son-in-law, John T. Brown in Parke County last Wednesday morning. She
was in good health and possessed her mental faculties until death. She was the
mother of ex-Senator Harlan of Iowa, and the grandmother of Mrs. Robert T.
Lincoln. She was born in Maryland in 1796 and moved to this state 80 years ago.
Her husband has been dead 60 years. She has lived under every President of the
United States. Four children survive her. The funeral exercises were held at
the house, being conducted by Rev. T. Meredith, pastor of the M.E. Church, at
this place. Her remains were interred in Blake Cemetery, about 9 miles
southeast of Rockville
