From the Catoctin Clarion, May 7, 1875:
Died — At Reisterstown, Baltimore co., Md. on the 29th of April, 1875, of apoplexy, Mr. JOSEPH WELLER, a native of Mechanicstown, and son of the late Jacob Weller, B.S. aged 67 years, 7 months and 12 days. His remains were brought to this place on last Saturday at 11 o'clock, A. M. via the Western Maryland Railroad, attended by the Masonic Fraternity, "Door to Virtue Lodge" of Westminster, and the Representatives of 6 or 8 other Lodges of Baltimore city and Reisterstown, where they were received by Acacia Lodge No. 155, Grand Master H. Foreman, of Mechanicstown. He was a brother-in-law of Mr.
Andrew Sefton and Mr. Joshua Stokes of this place, and had numerous relatives and friends in the vicinity. His funeral was largely attended by the Masonic fraternity and others. The corpse was taken to the United Brethren Church where the funeral sermon was preached by Rev. George E. Maydwell of the M. E. Church. Rev. N. E. Gilds and Rev. John P. Dean, of Reisterstown, also made some remarks appropriate to the occasion. His remains were interred in the U. B. Cemetery. Deceased by profession was a merchant, which calling he followed in Mechanicstown, Baltimore city, Westminster, and Reisterstown. He also held the office of Postmaster of Reisterstown at the time of his decease. Mr. W. was a warm-hearted, genial friend of generous impulses, and possessed a considerable literary ability. He loved the blue hills of the Catoctin Range, and expressed a wish to he buried in full view of the mountain scenery which surrounds the town. He leaves a wife and five children to mourn his loss.
