Born in a sod house, attended school in Bison, SD, and graduated from Spearfish High School, Spearfish, SD, in 1930. Was a baker until 1943, when he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Served in the Pacific area in World War II. Awarded a Bronze Star for hazardous duty. After WWII, he lived in California and worked for the U.S. Postal Service. Returned to Spearfish in 1987.
