Albert was born on 10 Oct 1850 at Bowerswell House, his family home on the slopes of Kinnoull Hill, near the city of Perth, Perthshire, Scotland, United Kingdom. He was the son of George Gray, a Scottish lawyer and businessman, and his wife Sophia Margaret Jameson. Seven of his fourteen siblings died young.
Albert was the younger brother of Euphemia "Effie" Chalmers (Gray) Millais, the wife of the Pre-Raphaelite painter John Everett Millais.
Marriage and Child
Albert, aged 45, married the widow Sophia "Sophie" (Williams) Grosvenor, aged 40, on 30 Nov 1895 at Christ Church, Mayfair, in the parish of St. George, Hanover Square, London. Sophia Williams was born on 17 July 1855 in Utica, Oneida County, New York, United States. She was daughter of Samuel Wells Williams, a professor and secretary of the U.S. Legation to China, and Sarah Simonds Walworth. Sophie's 1st husband, the Hon. Thomas George Grosvenor, C.B, died on 8 Oct 1886 in St. Petersburg, Russia, where he was Secretary of Embassy.
Albert and Sophie had a son, Patrick Walworth Gray (1898-1917) who died as a soldier, aged 19, in France during World War I.
Death
Sir Albert Gray, aged 78, died on 27 Feb 1928 at home at Catherine Lodge, Trafalgar Square (now called Chelsea Square), Chelsea, London. His ashes were buried at St. Lukes Graveyard, Chelsea, London. Ten years later, his wife, Lady Sophia Gray, died on 6 May 1938 in Chelsea, London.

Death of Distinguished Native: The Late Sir Albert Gray, K.C.
There passed away in London on Monday a distinguished native of the city in the person of Sir Albert Gray, K.C., who was the fourth son of the late Mr George Gray, Bowerswell, and brother of Mr Melville Gray, Bowerswell.
Deceased was educated at Rugby, and entered the Ceylon Civil Service in 1871, resigning in 1875. Called to the Bar in the Inner Temple four years later, he became one of the counsel to the Board of Trade in 1889, and to the Foreign Office in 1891. His outstanding ability marked him out for further promotion, and in 1896 he was appointed counsel to the Chairman of Committees in the House of Lords, continuing in that post until 1922.
Sir Albert was created C.B. in 1916 and K.C.B. in 1919, and for one year, 1924-25, he held the position of Mayor of Chelsea. From 1894 until 1897, he was Chancellor of the Diocese of Ely.
In 1895, Sir Albert married the daughter of Mr Wells Williams of the United States Legation, Peking, and widow of the Hon. Thomas G. Grosvenor, C.B. The deceased gentleman was not a frequent visitor to Perth, although he was well-known in the city. He was a brother of Lady Millais.
