KALLA, Dr. Frank -- Died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on August 23rd, 2010, following a short illness. Born in Budapest on August 6th, 1927, Frank grew up in Hungary. As a teenager, he survived the Nazi occupation. After the war, he completed medical school and trained as a cancer surgeon. He escaped communist Hungary shortly after the 1956 Revolution and made his way to Vancouver. He re-qualified in the Canadian medical system as a family physician. In 1959, he met Judith who would soon become his wife. They shared a family practice for almost forty years. He will be deeply missed by Judith, his sons, Tim (Tammy), Tony (Becca), and Dan (Cheryl) as well as his six granddaughters Melissa, Chelsea, Samantha, Gabrielle, Ashley and Charlotte, and his beloved poodle, Misty. Frank was buried Wednesday at a private funeral. The family wishes to extend special thanks to the palliative care team and wonderful caregivers who looked after him. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the BC Guide Dog Services (6050 44th Avenue, Delta, BC V4K 3X7 / www.bcguidedog.com ) or a charity of your choice.
