The photo was taken in 1934 when he was a student at UNC in Chapel Hill, N.C.
He joined Fieldcrest Mills in 1938 as the Editor of the "Mill Whistle" which was the company newspaper, and retired from there in 1977, after 39 years of service.
When Otis retired he took all the photos that he had taken over the years. They were mostly 8 X 10's. He went all over the area giving them to the people that were in the picture.

William "Otis" Marlowe, 94, is now resting in the arms of Jesus since he passed away Sunday afternoon, August 13, 2006 at Morehead Memorial Hospital.
His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 15, 2006 at First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Ridgeview Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Marlowe was born in Draper, N.C. to the late William Oliver and Celestia Hodges Marlowe.
He had been a member of First United Methodist Church since 1924 where he taught Sunday School, was a member of the Methodist Men, a member of the Administrative Board, was in charge of the Church Communicator, and was once voted "Father of the Year" within the church.
Mr. Marlowe was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he majored in journalism.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Anne Burton Marlowe, son William Burton Marlowe, four brothers and one sister.
