HORACE GILLETT PASSES AWAY. Son of Congressman Succumbs to Dread Appendicitis.
At half past 3 o'clock yesterday morning Horace, the eldest son of Congress-man-elect J. N. Gillett died at the home of his parents in this city from the effects of an attack of appendicitis. The little fellow, who was only 11 years old, was taken ill last Wednesday and the family physician diagnosed the case as appendicitis. An operation was deemed urgently necessary in order that the patient's life might be spared. Saturday the operation was performed, but the boy did not rally from the shock and died less than forty-eight hours later. Mrs. Gillett was absent in San Francisco and could not get home until after the young life had gone out. The obsequies will occur today at 2 o'clock. The ceremonies will be held at the family residence, No. 1535 E street. Interment will be made at Myrtle Grove Cemetery, where all that remains of one of the brightest and best natured little fellows in Eureka will be consigned to the damp cold of the tomb.
