Civil War Veteran -- Enlisted as a 1st Lieutenant on Sept 27,1861. Commission in Company C, 1st Cavalry Regiment of Rhode Island on Oct 4,1861. Promoted to Full Adjutant on Dec 23,1861. Promoted to Full Captain (As of Co. A) on Feb 21,1862. Promoted to Full Major on Jul 27,1862. Resigned Company C, 1st Cavalry Regiment of Rhode Island on Feb 17,1863.

He married Elizabeth Gilmer Swann in Maryland.
