Carolyn H. Grunberg, age 97, of Downers Grove, IL, formerly of Chicago, IL and northern Marinette, Wisconsin, passed away of heart failure on Sept. 23, 2003.

Beloved mother of Clifford Fossman of Haines, Alaska and Jeanne Grunberg Nelson of Croton-on-Hudson, NY; cherished grandmother of Cydney, Toni, Stephen and Carolyn; dear great-grandmother of Stuart, Tiffany, Penny, Drew and Kyle; very special aunt to many; and
loving sister of the late Emma Fredrikson, Ebenezer, Alice Flom, James, Horace "John", Elizabeth Vertz and Clayton.

"Carrie", as she was called by friends and family, will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She was known and will long be remembered for her fabulous cakes and gourmet cooking, her wonderful smile, elegance, kindness and generosity.

She graduated from the Francoise Pope School of Cooking and the Wilton School of Cake Decorating, and pursued a career in catering that spanned nearly three decades, including the position of pastry chef at Chicago's renowned South Side Swedish Club.

She lived for the past 22 years at Peace Memorial Manor in Downers Grove, where a Memorial Service was held last Friday, conducted by Pastor Joyce of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
