He was born in Whitechapel, the son of furrier Woolf and Rachel Bober, of Lithuania and Poland, respectively. At the time of the 1911 Census, the widowed Rachel and her family were residing at 1 Gun Street, Brushfield Street.

Aged 19, Bober died on 2 April 1918, during Germany's Spring Offensive on the Western Front, while serving with the 11th (Service) Battalion, The Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment).
