Patricia Ann Bonner Barker, 79, of Helena, passed away peacefully on Sept. 7, 2014.

Pat was the third daughter of former Governor John W. Bonner and Josephine Martin Bonner. She was born April 13, 1935, at the old St. John’s Hospital in Helena.

Pat graduated from St. Helena Grade School and Helena High School. She attended both Washington State University and Montana State University.

Pat lived in Butte and Bozeman before returning to Helena in 1983.

Pat was very active in her children’s school activities and was a volunteer in many charitable organizations. She was a member of the Cathedral of St. Helena and was a member and officer of the Altrusa Club of Helena, a women’s service organization. She was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. Pat was employed by the State of Montana for 20 years.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved maternal grandmother, Margaret Harrington Martin, who lived with the Bonner family for 30 years; her sisters, Wilma Jean (Billie) Bonner, Josephine (Jo) Calhoun, Jacqueline (Jackie) Wiley; her soulmate; and her brother, Thomas John Bonner.

Pat is survived by her sons, John Barker and Robert Barker of Helena; and her daughter and son-in-law Jan Marie Newville and Sam Newville and Jeff Lee, a grandson in every way, all of Bozeman.
Also surviving Pat are her nieces, Lillian Wiley Quinn of Bend Oregon, Kathy Wiley Paukert and her husband, Mike, of Spokane, Washington, Shawn Calhoun Wakefield and her husband, Mike, of Atlanta, Georgia, Tamara Bonner Jackson and her husband, Greg, of Gig Harbor, Washington; sister-in-law Carol Bonner of Seattle, Washington, and her many beloved grandnieces and grandnephews.

Pat’s family would like to thank the caring staff at Apple Cooney and also the angels at St. Peter’s Hospice.

A funeral mass will be held at noon, Tuesday, Sept. 16, at Cathedral of St. Helena, with graveside committal following at Resurrection Cemetery.
