Mrs. Evie Mae Baker, 79, of 4405 Gee St. died Sunday at 2 a.m. at a local nursing home. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today at Coker-Mathews-Peters Chapel with the Rev. Richard Atkinson officiating. Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery. Grandsons will be pallbearers.
She was born June 25, 1900 in the Jacobia community in Hunt County, the daughter of Alvin A. Duke and Allie J. Hatttaway Duke. She was married to A.T. Baker, Sr. on June 22, 1921 in Greenville. A retired saleslady, Mrs. Baker was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Carol Smith; brother, Alvin Duke both of Greenville; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband on April 24, 1961 and her son, A.T. Baker, Jr. on Dec. 22, 1968.
