UNDERWOOD - Walter Joseph Piggott Sr., 84, of Louisville passed away Saturday, January 3, 2015. He was born August 30, 1930 in Lexington, KY, son of the late Thomas Rust and Eliza Piggott Underwood. Underwood served six years in the U.S. Navy Reserve during the Korean conflict. He married Joan Pfeiffer on December 1, 1951. He was employed by American Express Financial Planner for 38 years. He was a talented paper maker often seen in juried art shows. He was a volunteer for the Red Cross for more than 50 years. Besides his wife, he is survived by his brother Tom Underwood (Lexington), daughters Meredith Smith (Terry) of Florida, Laura Klein (Al) of Louisville, Lindsey Underwood, of Louisville, Tracy Gatto (Joe) of Florida, Robin Llinas (Tom) of Florida, and a son, Walter Underwood, Jr. (Elizabeth) of LaGrange, KY. Grandchildren, Winston Smith (Cathy), Wesley Smith, Tim Klein (Dana), Peter Klein, Bennet Gatto, Emily Gatto, and Jay Gatto, Nicole and TJ Llinas, Ethan, Daniel and Benjamin Underwood and Katherine. He also has five great-grandchildren. A memorial Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 501 Cherrywood Road with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Thursday at Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road "in St. Matthews."
