Lyle Kilbourn, 85, Minot, was reunited with his wife Sylvia on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Lyle was born on December 19, 1928, the son of Floyd and Carrie (Soderberg) Kilbourn on the homestead in Berthold. Lyle entered the United States Army on June 25, 1951, so his brother Dale would not have to serve. Lyle served during the Korean Conflict and was honorable discharged on June 24, 1954. After his discharge he returned to North Dakota and went to work for Nash Finch Co. and later retired in 1990. Lyle also farmed his family homestead.

Lyle married Sylvia Nelson on September 28, 1957, in Havre, MT. The couple made their home in rural Minot, then Des Lacs and back to Minot in 1980, where Lyle lived until his death.

He was a member of the VFW Club in Minot where he enjoyed playing bingo with Sylvia.

Lyle loved traveling around the United States to visit his children and grandchildren. He also loved his dogs Alexis and Oscar. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was always concerned about everyone else in his family. He was fun to be with and at his age enjoyed flirting with the nurses at the cancer center.

His loving family includes; sons, Ed (Retta) Kilbourn, Oklee, MN, Steve (Lorie) Kilbourn, Burlington, ND and Duane (Julie) Kilbourn, Tucson, AZ; daughters, Laurie (Peter) LeCapitaine, Appleton, WI and Denise (Jeff) Nabozny, San Angelo, TX; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Lyle was preceded in death by wife, Sylvia, parents, infant daughters, Mary and Michelle, two infant granddaughters, Nikki and Shenette, infant grandson, Kellen and brother, Dale Kilbourn.

Lyle's family would like to thank Dr. Pat and all the nurses for the special care they gave their father and grandfather.
