Her parents were married about 1810 in New York. In 1820 David Witter was listed as living in Union, Union County Ohio. As the date of the census was Aug 7th it is likely Dorothy was born in Union Township. In 1830 her family was living in Milford Center. Dorothy's mother in reported to have died in 1838 in Marysville. Her father then remarried (Eliza Locke, widow of Edward Moran) and moved to Illinois in the mid 1840's.
