Peter was served with the RCAF in WWII and lost his live, when his plane Typhoon PD556 439 Squadron was shot at by German fighters on the runway (B78 Airfield) Eindhoven Holland. Peter throttled back, pulled to the side of the runway where he climbed out of the aircraft. He had suffered a wound in the lower stomach and died a few minutes after admittance to Sick Quarters. He had taken command of 438 Sqn that very morning and was leading his very first mission as CO.
