He married Hannah Morrison. They were the parents of James Walton Hewitt, Sarah Allie Hewitt, Minnie S Hewitt, Eleanora Hewitt, Lillie Hewitt, and Iola Hewitt. After his death Hannah married Andrew J McGlathery, who died in 1892. After Andrew's death, Hannah and her children from both marriages moved to Logansport, Desoto Parish, LA.
