Chester Eric Ollison, of Austin, died June 10, 1999, at the age of 89.


Born in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, Chester emigrated to Texas in 1932, to attend SMU and UT (Austin), where he received BBA and LLB degrees.


He subsequently joined the Attorney General's office, being appointed an Assistant Attorney General in 1942, and served until 1952, when he was appointed Legal Counsel to the Commissioner and State Board of Education. During this time he implemented the Gilmer-Aiken Act, which he helped draft, and assisted the public schools through in-tegration.


After his retirement in 1976, he provided volunteer service to the University Interscholastic League and. the Teacher's Retirement System.


During World War II, he served in the Army Security Intelligence Corps and held offices in the SIC Association of Veterans.


Music and the Methodist Church were at the core of his life from age 9, when he joined the Melrose Methodist Choir as a boy soprano, through his 50 year tenure in the choir and Hickman Bible Class at the University United Methodist Church in Austin.


He was also a 32 Mason, a member of the Ben Hur Shrine Temple, and sang with the Shrine Chanters.


Raised as a foster child, he was especially appreciative and loving of his wife, children, and grandchildren, who were the center of his life.


Chester is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Bernice; son, Will M. Ollison and wife, Sharon, of Rockville, Maryland; daughters, Pat Groom and husband, John, of Corpus Christi and Jean Westbrook and husband, Mark, of Austin; six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.


A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, June 13, 1999, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, Lamar location. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, June 14, 1999, at University United Methodist Church, 2409 Guadalupe St. Interment will follow at Decker United Methodist Church Cem-etery, 8304 Decker Lane, Austin.


Pallbearers will include John Kavan-Mgh, Jonathan Wattrook, Ernon McGinnis, Bryan Hancock,

Hancock and Charles Stephenson.


The Hickman Bible Class will serve as Honorary pallbearers.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to University United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or Dallas Scottish Rite Hospital.
