Thompson – Julia C. Mahon, 97, of Thompson Rd., died Thursday, November 28, 2013, at home. She was the loving wife of the late Edmund Mahon whom she married on November 14, 1936 in Sacred Heart Church, West Thompson. Born in Phenix City, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late Francis C. and Ferol (Smith) Cunha.

Mrs. Mahon worked as a librarian for both Tourtellotte Memorial High School and the Thompson School systems

Mrs. Mahon was an accomplished writer; writing many children's books and had numerous articles published in several magazines. She also enjoyed cooking and won several area cooking contests, she was the regional reporter for the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, and very active at St. Joseph Church in N. Grosvenordale where she served on the Bishop's Advisory Council.

Julia is survived by a son Dr. Paul J. Mahon of Worcester, a daughter Rosemary Jackson of Middleboro, MA; three sisters Agnes Howard of Columbus, GA, and Margaret Bibek of N. Grosvenordale; Madeline Welch of Putnam, six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three, children John Mahon, Sr. 1937-1988,Thomas "Gus" Mahon 1948-2002 and a daughter Elizabeth Mahon 1950-1953.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Julia's family from 4 to 7pm, Sunday, December 1, 2013, in the Valade Funeral Home, 23 Main St., N. Grosvenordale CT. A gathering will begin at 9 am on Monday, December 2, 2013, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Joseph Church, 18 Main St., N. Grosvenordale. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Julia's memory may be made to St. Joseph Church, 18 Main St., N. Grosvenordale, CT 06255.
