JACOB A. O. Preus was the 20th governor of the state of Minnesota.

In 1903 he graduated from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. In 1906 at the University of Minnesota he earned a law degree.

Preus began his public service career in 1906, as clerk to U.S. Senator Knute Nelson. He had this position for three years. He also served as an executive clerk to the Governor of Minnesota from 1909 to 1910. He was the state insurance commissioner from 1910 to 1914. He also served as the state auditor from 1914 to 1920.

Preus was elected Governor of Minnesota, November 2, 1920. He was reelected for a second term in 1922.

In 1917 he founded the Lutheran Brotherhood Insurance Company.

Mr. Preus was a member of the Republican Party.
