In 1833, an epidemic of cholera morbus struck the region, leading to the suspension of burials at the Purísima. Instead, an unfinished Capuchinas convent located in the current streets of Aramberri, Colegio Civil, Ruperto Martínez, and Juárez was used. Once the epidemic was controlled, burials at the Purísima resumed. During the US invasion from 1846 to 1848, the cemetery of the church of Nuestra Señora del Roble was the main burial site used.
In 1849, cholera morbus resurfaced and, following the recommendations of Dr. Gonzalitos, the closure of some irrigation channels was carried out. Sanitation measures were implemented in water treatment, and the city government was urged to establish a new cemetery. This new cemetery was located on the current streets of Aramberri and Venustiano Carranza.
