Add PhotosMr. Vaughan was married three times and lived in the area of Davidson County, now called "Vaughn's Gap".
His first wife, Nancy Lowe, died in 1814, and was buried in the family cemetery where her daughter Eliza, aged one year, had been buried in 1812.
Johnson then married Nancy's sister, Elizabeth Lowe, and they had nine children. Elizabeth died in 1834. She was buried in the family graveyard.
Johnson Vaughan then married a third time, in 1836, to Elizabeth Jane (Anderson) Berry and they have five children. Johnson died in 1871 and Elizabeth in 1876. They were buried in the family cemetery and later re-interred in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Today, there are only two tombstones in the family cemetery, one tombstone for Elizabeth Lowe Vaughan, and one tombstone for the two first cousins, Eliza and Nancy D. Vaughan.
In November 2001, neighbors reported to volunteers, who were surveying the cemetery, that, prior to the development of the subdivision, 30 years prior, there had been seven tombstones in the Vaughan Family Cemetery. The cemetery is located between two houses, in a small wooded thicket. Two tombstones remain standing. Many broken stone pieces are scattered throughout the thicket.
