Cemetery Lane Part Of Doughoreagan Manor
Ellicott City, Howard County, Maryland, USA
"Cemetery Lane is really a dirt road / path running north of the Baltimore National Pike (US Rt 40) and being approximately one mile west of the intersection of US Rt 40 and stops at MD Rt 144 directly across from Wallace Park Athletic field. The gravestones are to be found to the right (east) side of the pathway in a rather large wooded area. The stones and markers are, for the most part down and covered with vines and underbrush. The best time for viewing is during the late fall and winter seasons"
Death certificates and notices may say that an interment was done at Doughoregan manor or at St. Mary's. A 19MAY2000 RootsWeb posting by Mary Catherine Cochran states "There are actually 3 known cemeteries for Doughoregan Manor. Two of the existing cemeteries are on the grounds of the Manor. One is an old slave cemetery and the other was mainly for family members. Another cemetery is located in the middle of a new neighborhood called Turf Valley. There is little left to recognize in this cemetery and it was nearly lost to development. There is a small road to the left if you are heading west on Rte 40 called "cemetery lane" this is just after the exit for rt. 144 w. On the right- across from Cemetery lane is a driveway that is an official easement for his cemetery."
There is a St. Mary's Cemetery at Ilchester that adds to the confusion.
