Brown Cemetery
Also known as Davis Brown Cemetery
Giles County, Tennessee, USA
Presently there are about 14 graves with stones that have names on them. These are largely of the Brown surname, but one Andrews, & one for McGrew/(McGraw)
Several Large very old & lightly carved limestone slabs & Stack Stone monuments are present hinting of graves of long ago, maybe before this country was opened up to the white settlers when white settlere known as squatters were present.
There is a descrepancy in the GPS between different mapping companies and types of maps. One source, Topozone, says these coordinates are 35.12069 X 86.93757. I was not able to verify that. This is important in finding this cemetery as it is deep in a large expanse of woodlands with low visibility. Go here only in the wintertime or you will be not likely be successful in finding this cemetery.
Leave Hardy Road and travel up the slope in the woods. We then came upon that clearing shown in the Satellite mapping. We crossed on thru the clearing traveling northwest and went back into the woods again and came to some shallow gullies and rock outcroppings. That was where the GPS pointer indicated the cemetery was located - 35.12069 X 86.93757. Since that pointer was wrong I went west about 120 yards while bearing slightly north until I came to an old fence line and the cemetery was found north of the fence about 80 yards. From the fence I could spot one of the tombstones still under the tree line but across the fence due north of me.
Another way is when you come to the old rusty fence line the cemetery is about 80 yards north of that. So go north of the fence 80 yards and you should walk into the cemetery If you don't find the cemetery you are too far east of west. Then walk east or west parallel to the fence and you will eventualy walk upon the cemetery.
Sorry about all the complicated rambling but I lost my exact GPS coordniates when there and don't know any other way of pinning this down.
My GPS estimates here are not exact. Nevertheless I think it is closer than any other mapping source known to me.
