The Historic Columbian Cemetery located a mile south of the Columbia River has been the resting place for people from all class levels and ethnic groups, well-known and everyday citizens from the North Portland area since 1857. The cemetery was originally named the Love Cemetery after Captain Lewis Love, one of the first early settlers who lived on the property and made his money rafting logs to Portland.
Many notable people in Portland are buried here, including founding fathers, pioneers who arrived along the Oregon Trail, and freed slaves. It is a treasure trove of Portland history. The cemetery was an integral part of the area's early development and, despite neglect and vandalism in the past, remains a vibrant part the fabric of the Portland community. It is revitalized, holding several activities a year for residents, including the living kind. Historic Columbian Cemetery is a hybrid cemetery certified by the Green Burial Council.
Historic Columbian Cemetery is located in Multnomah County at 1151 North Columbia Boulevard, Portland, OR 97211. The grounds are open daily 7 am – 8 pm. Services available include -
• Burial site opening and closing
• Display space onsite
• Advanced reservations are available
• Cremated remains burial
• Full body burial
