History, from website of MTSU.edu:
"St. Paul AME Church was founded in 1891, with the original church located on the banks of Agnew Creek. After years of water damage and flooding caused by the creek, the building was destroyed. A second church was built after land was purchased from W.D. Reynolds in 1913. The new plot of land was ideal as it was right next to the Agnew Cemetery, which the Benevolent Society owned. In addition to the church building, a parsonage was built on the land to house the ministers. The second church, which also served as a school building, was destroyed too, although this time by fire. Therefore, a third church was built in 1928, which is the one being used today. By the mid 1940s the church building was no longer used as a school and by the late 1940s the parsonage was destroyed by fire and never rebuilt."
