I find cemeteries interesting for various reasons. Inscriptions can be sad, amusing and even funny. I find various designs of very old monuments fascinating. When I was 11, my parents were building a house 20 miles from where we lived. Every weekend, we went to check on the status of the new house and had to pass a cemetery on the way. It petrified me to pass by, but I never knew why, I'd never been through the gates.
Little did I know that my beloved Mom would be buried at this same cemetery in 1991, less than 20 years after our repeated weekend trips. It was only through her death I became comfortable with my fear and I visited quite regularly before leaving CA. When I visit San Diego, I always go hang out with Mom for a few hours and on a clear day I can see the Coronado bridge! A purple pinwheel, flowers and packing bubbles to pop are usually taken when I visit.
I enjoy locating graves and photographing them for members of Find A Grave to assist in their genealogy research.
