Lila S. Adamczak, age 95 of Manistee, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012 at the Manistee County Medical Care Facility.
She was born on Sept. 11, 1917 in Baltic, Michigan in the Upper Peninsula, daughter of the late Hjalmer and Hilda (Lammi) Siivonen. At the age of two, her parents moved to the Lower Peninsula to Kaleva, where she attended a one room country school for the first eight grades. She attended Kaleva High School, graduating with the class of 1935. Lila was employed at the former Manistee County Farm. On February 14, 1942 she was united in marriage to Ted Adamczak and lived in Brown Township on Coates Highway for 40 years, moving to Manistee Township in 1982. Ted preceded her in death on July 15, 1971. She was employed at West Shore Hospital in Manistee and after retiring she returned to the hospital as a volunteer. Lila enjoyed dancing, especially the polka, and being with her friends.
Lila was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church of Manistee, a life member of the Kaleva Bear Creek #6333 V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, a life member of the V.F.W. National Home, a member of the West Shore Medical Center Auxiliary, the St. Joseph Civic Club.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law: Ruth Wiitala of Congress, AZ and Carol and Bill Sobleskey of Olivet, MI, her son and daughter-in-law: Jack and Harriet Adamczak, her son Robert Adamczak, her daughter-in-law: Marilyn Adamczak all of Manistee, her grandchildren, Heather (Jake) Huffman, Hilary (David) Edmondson, Todd Adamczak, Scott (Kristi) Adamczak, Lori Adamczak, Amber Sobleskey and Teddy Sobleskey, ten great grandchildren and one sister, Helmi Long of Algonquin, IL. Several nieces and nephews also survive her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ted in 1971, four sisters Anne Marder, Aili Wittbecker, Wilma Mackey and Flora Forsman, five brothers, Wilho, Elmer, Victor, Wayne and Jack Siivonen and a son-in-law: Walt Wiitala.
Mass from The Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 8, 2012 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee with Rev. Sylvestre Obwaka celebrant. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, also of Manistee.
