While Simeon Lyman was probably born in Northampton, Massachusetts, where his parents Moses Lyman and Mindwell (Sheldon) Lyman were living, to date no birth record has been located for him there.
Simeon Lyman had two wives, whose prior names were Elizabeth Beebe and Abigail Chipman. He married Elizabeth first, in Salisbury on 5 January 1748/9, and after Elizabeth's 1773 death, he married Abigail Chipman in Salisbury on 19 September 1774. I do not know for sure yet whether Chipman was her maiden name or a previous married name. Simeon's two wives were conflated into one wife in the Lyman Genealogy that was published in the late 1800's. I worked on the research behind my statements on this memorial in original documents created at the time the events occurred.
Simeon bought property in Salisbury in 1744 and was admitted as a "resident" in 1747, finally being allowed to vote at the town meetings. Only after he had achieved residency status did he marry a woman from one of the major families in the area.

ADDED FOR ADDITIONAL CLARITY: Since taking over Simeon's memorial, I have gotten multiple 'suggestions' stating that my work is incorrect, so I am adding this additional note. I worked in original records created at the time. If someone has contrary evidence **in original documents created at the time**, I am happy to hear them. So far, the only evidence I have been sent to the contrary were documents created well after the events happened, such as the 1800's Lyman Genealogy that (as I mention above) conflated two wives into one; SAR & DAR applications; and an index-only database on Ancestry that claims that the Simeon Lyman who married Abigail Chipman was born in 1755, with the only attribution for that birth year being someone's compiled genealogy. I have not found any marriage between an Abigail Beebe and a Simeon Lyman in the Salisbury area in the mid-1700's, and before you write me suggesting that Simeon's son named Simeon Lyman was the one who married Abigail Chipman, please note that the younger Simeon Lyman was already married when Simeon & Abigail married, and the younger Simeon's wife had not died.
