"Died in St. Martinville, on Sunday October 15th. J. Dorville Broussard, at the home of his son-in-law, Mr. P. L. Guilbeau, at the age of 74 years.

He was buried at half past four o'clock in the evening Monday the 16th, and his remains were followed to the grave by a large number of relatives and friends.

John Dorville Broussard, son of Don Louis Broussard and Adela Broussard was born the 27th of December 1833, received his education in the Parish Schools, he started his debut in life by running a freight boat from St. Martinville to Breaux Bridge and up until his marriage to Miss Anastasie Gonsoulin, in 1851, this union was blessed by the birth of 15 children, 11 boys and 5 girls, of which there remains but 6 actually living, Louis Broussard, Robert Broussard, Congressman, Albert Broussard, Edwin S. Broussard, District Attorney, Blanche, wife of Preston Guilbeau and Marie Louise, wife of Richard Steckler.

For 14 consecutive years he occupied the office of assessor and Clerk of Court Parish of St. Martin giving his demission in 1868, to take part in edification of the Parish of Iberia there he was for 13 years appointed and elected Police Juror, withdrawing from active politic when his son Hon. Robert F. Broussard was elected to Congress.

During the civil war he commissioned as Colonel by Governor Moore with instructions to take steps and measures to delay and check the invading force of the federal army under command of Gen. Blanks, he established fortifications on Lake Dautrive and Butte Larose.

Mr. Broussard was a true, kind, loving friend an father."
