U.S. Senator and U.S. Congressman from New Hampshire. U.S. Congressman. He graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1938 and Harvard Law School in 1941, and became an attorney. During World War II he served as a Navy Lieutenant in the Alaskan Theater. From 1946 to 1949 he worked for the U.S. Senate as a committee counsel and Administrative Assistant for Senator Styles Bridges. From 1953 to 1961 Wyman was state Attorney General. In 1962 he was elected to the U.S. House and served one term, running unsuccessfully for reelection. In 1966 he won election to Congress for the second time, serving until 1974. In 1974 he was the Republican U.S. Senate nominee. He appeared to beat John Durkin by 355 votes. Durkin asked for a recount, which resulted in him leading by 10. Wyman requested a recount, which resulted in him leading by 2. Incumbent Norris Cotton then resigned and the Governor appointed Wyman. Wyman served the remainder of Cotton's term, December 31, 1974 to January 3, 1975. Durkin then appealed to the U.S. Senate, which could not resolve the dispute, so Durkin and Wyman agreed to a new contest. Durkin won the September, 1975 special election and claimed the seat. Wyman served as a state Superior Court Judge from 1978 to 1987, afterwards retiring to Manchester and West Palm Beach.
