John Abbott BARKER was of English descent, born in Oyster Bay, Long Island NYon 26 MAY 1787. He was the son of Joseph BARKER and Susan Abbott, and grandson of Thomas and Martha Barker of Lloyds Manor on Long Island . He married Phebe OGDEN, born 18 DEC 1789, daughter of Joseph OGDEN and Rhoda BAKER . They were married at Chenango Forks, Broome County NY, where he commenced the business of a tanner, the art and mystery which he acquired growing up, He 'prosecuted' that business along with farming the remainder of his life. He was a man of energy, activity, great force of character; he was prosperous, and of good repute. His wife Phebe died 2 APR 1860.
