Future U.S. Senator for the State of Texas, widower James W. Flanagan married Elizabeth R. S. Lane on Jan 21, 1845 according to Rusk County, Texas, Marriage Records. The former Elizabeth Lane [b Mar 21, 1823 Franklin Co, GA] was a daughter of pioneers Robert L. Lane [b 1790 Franklin Co, GA - d Feb 1850 Rusk Co, TX] and the former Ann Cleveland.

James and Elizabeth Flanagan had four sons together, with Wyatt Cardinal Flanagan arriving in May of 1857. Elizabeth died on Dec 23, 1858, at the age of 35, and was buried in Flanagan Family Cemetery, Henderson, Rusk Co, Texas.

Wyatt C. Flanagan married Mary Melissa Gentry on Dec 26, 1887 in Longview, Gregg Co, TX. Their marriage was short lived for Wyatt died in 1890. He was buried in Flanagan Family Cemetery where his mother Elizabeth R. S. Lane was at rest, as well as his father's first wife Mary "Polly" [Moorman] Flanagan. Wyatt and Mary had no children. Mary Gentry Flanagan [b Sep 16, 1873 Hanging Dog, Cherokee Co, NC] was a young woman when Wyatt died. She later remarried and was widowed more than once through the years. Mary Campbell died Feb 25, 1964 in Houston, Harris Co, TX.
