Served as a soldier in the Union Army during the Civil War. Recruited in Huntingdon County, Samuel B. Hood, was mustered into Company B, 110th Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers as a Private on October 24, 1861 for a term of 3 years. He was taken prisoner in Virginia on March 6, 1864, and released April 23, 1865. He was mustered out with the Company, June 28, 1865.
