Harriet was the d/o Robert Hughes McCreary (1868–1932) & Jessica Cornelia Newberry (1870–1906)

From 1911 to 1915 she served as the youngest ever First Lady of Kentucky for her paternal grandfather Governor James Bennett McCreary in his 2nd term in office.

She was married to James GATEWOOD Gay (1893–1964)

They had 4 known children:

1) Eva Gatewood Gay (1919 – 1922)

2) Mary JESSICA Gay (1922)

3) Robert McCreary Gay (1925 – 1976)

4) Elizabeth K "Betty" Gay (1927)

Harriet was married next to Clinton McClarty Harbison (1886–1980) the senior partner in the law firm of Harbison, Kessinger, Lisle and Bush in Lexington.
