Thomas Eliphlett Hale, 84, a longtime early resident of Afton, died Friday, Jan 28, 1977 at an Idaho Falls hospital of causes incident to age, following a long illness.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan 31 at 10 a.m. in the Afton First Ward Chapel, with Bp. Claud H. Stauffer conducting. Burial was in the Logan, Utah City Cemetery.
He was born Jan 9, 1893 at Afton, Wyo., to Aroet Lucius and Eliza Ann Lee Hale. He was raised and educated in Afton, where he spent most of his life as a farmer and merchant.
He served during World War I with the Wyoming National Guard.
He was married to L. Rachel Miles Nov 7, 1914 at Paris, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple, Mrs Hale died Nov 1, 1964.
Historical records show that Tom and Rachel published the Star Valley Independent for a time, prior to 1916.
The Hales moved to Logan, Utah in 1946. Upon the death of his wife in 1964, he made his home with his daughter. He returned to Afton in October 1978.
Tom was an Elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He is survived by a daughter, Mrs Frank (Laura Rae) Yannacone of Afton; eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. A son, John E. Hale, preceded him in death.
