Nola Duke was the daughter of William Washington Duke and his wife Emily Bell Swain. Her father died during the Civil War while she and her two siblings were very small children. Her mother remarried but died soon afer (1868). Nola and her siblings went to live with a relative. She met and married David Perry Mathias Posey on 22 Dec 1880. In December of 1883 she gave birth to a son, William Hwell Posey and died from complication of the birth in March of 1884. Her burial was at Liberty Cemetery near her Duke and swain relatives. Over the years the plain stone was broken into several pieces but was still readable. Almost 100 years went by before her grandson went to find his "lost grandmother". He contacted a Swain Relative (Marjorie Swain Harris) who took him to the gravesite. Later He (William Howell Posey Jr. and his son Jon M. Posey) replaced the broken stone with a new pillow stone. This was done in the late spring of 1984.
