Richmond Whig (Richmond, VA), 17 November 1848

At his uncle's, (Mr. Wm. Prior's) in the county of Goochland, on the 18th of September, Mr. James H. Meriwether, in his 40th year. In the death of this amiable gentleman, a mother has lost a most affectionate son, a sister and brother, a kind relation, his uncle the prop and stay of his declining years, and society an intelligent, useful member of the highest integrity. The writer of this poor tribute to the memory of his friend, had known him from childhood, and never heard him speak harshly of any human being. Such a man of course could not have an enemy, while all who knew him were his friends.

=====

James was the son of Robert Meriwether and Martha Ann Pryor. His brother was William P Meriwether and his sister was Elizabeth Dabney (Meriwether) Trice.
