Mary Martin Murphy
Former deacon of First Presbyterian Church

Mary Martin Murphy, 77, of Humbert Lane Health Care Center, Washington, died Sunday, December 26, 1993, in the health care center.

Born February 19, 1916, in Waynesburg, she was a daughter of U.S. Sen. and Gov. Edward Martin and Charity Scott Martin.

Mrs. Murphy was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Washington for more than 60 years, was a former deacon and a member of the Women's Association of the church.

She was a graduate of East Washington High School and attended Washington Seminary.

Mrs. Murphy was a member of the Washington County Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Washington and Jefferson College Auxiliary, Jefferson Historical Society in Canonsburg and the Washington County Humane Society.

On October 12, 1935, in Washington, she married James B. W. Murphy, who survives.

Also surviving is one brother, Edward S. Martin of Washington.


MURPHY—Friends of Mary Martin Murphy of Humbert Lane Health Care Center, Washington, who died Sunday, December 26, 1993, are asked to attend graveside services, with Dr. Robert J. Campbell officiating, on Thursday, December 30. Friends should meet at the Washington Cemetery Community Mausoleum chapel at 10:45 a.m. Interment in Washington Cemetery. The family suggests donations to Washington County Humane Society and First Presbyterian Church of Washington. Piatt and Bramhill Funeral Directors Inc.
