Funeral services for Major Maurice M Roberts, a son of former Governor A H Roberts, and former assistant adjutant-general of Tennessee, were held Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock at the home of his father, Major Roberts, on McClavock Lane, Nashville. Burial was at Good Hope cemetery at 1 o'clock. Services were in charge of the American Legion.
Major Roberts, who died Tuesday night in a Nashville hospital, had been an invalid for many years. During the World War he contracted tuberculosis and had been in poor health since then. For the past year he been in a government hospital at Marion, Ind., and had only recently returned to Nashville from there. It was thought at the time he returned that his condition was greatly improved.
Born in Livingston, Tenn., he graduated from Livingston Academy and later received his law degree from Cumberland University at Lebanon. For a short while prior to the World War he practiced law.
He was one of the organizers of Company L here when the United States entered the war and served as a first lieutenant in field artillery in France.
He became assistant adjutant-general on his return from France and served in that capacity until his poor health forced him to resign.
During recent years he spent most of his time in Nashville, going occasionally to hospitals in other cities.
In addition to his father, Major Roberts is survived by his wife, Mrs. Hattie Smith Roberts; a son, W H Roberts; one brother, A H Roberts Jr; and two sisters, Mrs Paul Capps and Mrs H C Gaydes, all of Nashville.
