Melvin A Barber, age 92, of Center Point, AL, passed away on February 26, 2012.

He was a member of Center Point United Methodist Church.

He retired from the US Postal Service.

He was a veteran of World War II while serving in the Navy in the South Pacific. He was recalled to active duty during the Berlin Missile Crisis from 1961-62.

He was known for his wood working skills and he enjoyed creating and sharing his creations with others.

He was a member of the Center Point Civitan Club for many years.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Janet Barber and by his sisters, Edith Spencer and Dorothy Woods.

He is survived by his son, David Barber (Lindalu) and daughter, Jan Denaburg (Charles); sisters, Bertie Horsley [Stephenson] and Clara Tucker; brothers, Ralph Barber and Marvin Barber; grandchildren, Joel Barber (Mindy), Julie Hanner (Jeff), Jenny Lou Grindle (Chris), Jyl Moore (Kevin), Rhett Wood (Nicole), Eddie Denburg (Vicki), Lorraine Wolf (Bert), Todd Denaburg and Ann Robertson; he is also survived by 19 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10AM on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens East. Joan E. Pinson will officiate the services.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Prescott House, 1730 14th Ave S, B'ham, AL, 35235. Jefferson Memorial Trussville directing.
