Musician. He was a trumpet player prominent in the development of the New Orleans style of jazz in the early 20th century. From 1905 to 1915, he was regarded as one of the top trumpeters in New Orleans, playing in parades, touring with minstrel shows and in circus bands. His band played in New Orleans, San Francisco, Boston, and New York City and made many recordings. Bunk's work in the 1940s was well regarded by his fellow musicians as his best playing years, for its great imagination and creative style. He died of a stroke.
