James J. Bruce, one of our oldest and most respected colored citizens , died Wednesday morning after a long and lingering spell o dropsy. He was an older brother of the late Ex-United States Senator and Register of the U. S. Treasury, Blanch K. Bruce, and was about 80 years old. His son, B. K. Bruce, Jr., is a prominent educator at Lawrence, Kansas, but, on account of the high water, he was unable to be at his father's bedside at the time of his death, and may not be able to reach here in time for interment.
