Funeral services for Lafayette H Carlock, 78, former Superintendent of Schools for Overton County and a former representative for the general assembly, who died Mrs. Alto Keisling in North Livingston on Friday, February 7 at 1:30 p.m. after a lingering illness, were conducted at the Livingston Methodist church on Sunday afternoon by the Rev Dewey S Organ, with burial in Good Hope cemetery.
Mr. Carlock was born and reared in the Alpine community, a son of the late Benjamin Lakin Carlock and Mrs. Eliza Hayter Carlock. He received his education in the schools in Moppin, Ky and at Alpine Institute.
He was a teacher in the public schools of Overton County for several years, was a member of the firm Carlock and Ledford and also taught in a number of penmanship schools.
He was Superintendent of Schools 1879-80 and represented Overton County in the Tennessee legislature 1891-92.
He had been a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian church for a period of 60 years.
He was married to Miss Della Chapin on Dec 9, 1897, the ceremony being performed by the Rev J W Hatcher, then pastor of the Livingston Methodist church.
He moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico some 15 years ago, where he remained until a few months ago when he moved to Livingston, after undergoing a serious operation in a Nashville hospital, from which he never fully recovered. The immediate cause of his death was from a heart attack.
He is survived by his wife and one son, Neal Carlock, who is an undertaker in Stanford, Texas.
