US Congressman. A member of the most influential family of Pickens County, he represented the area in the Georgia State Legislature from 1882 to 1887. He was elected as a US Representative from Georgia in 1893, serving until 1905. After leaving office, he served as the US District Attorney for the northern district of Georgia from 1905 to 1913. The town of Tate, Georgia was named for his family, who founded the Georgia Marble Company there.
