Louis Henry Bayhi Jr., a retired truck driver, died Saturday, November 24 of lung cancer at West Jefferson Medical Center. He was 66. Mr. Bayhi was born in Algiers and lived in Marrero for the past 32 years. He worked for BOC Industrial Gases for 28 years, where he received the Million Mile Safety Award. He was a member of Teamsters Local Union No. 270. He was an Army National Guard veteran. Survivors include his wife, June Matherne Bayhi; five sons, Rick Purcell, and Glen, Troy, Daryl and Louis H. Bayhi III; a daughter, Cheryl Purcell Gianforte; two brothers, Warren and Roy Bayhi; a sister, Beulah Bayhi Plaisance; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Louis H. Bayhi, Sr, his mother, Beulah Graf Bayhi, and a brother, Danny Bayhi. A funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church, 418 Fourth St., Gretna. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery in Gretna. United Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.
