US Navy Rear Admiral. Died from the lingering effects of yellow fever. The month previous to his death his command while docked in St. Thomas, US Virgin Island was subjected to an earthquake and subsequent tsunami sinking one of his ships with the loss of numerous crew members. He was promoted to Rear Admiral on July 25, 1866. He was reinterred in Saint John's in 1925 after being buried on the island of St. Thomas in the West Indies.
